YSL: The city of Paris pays tribute to Legendary Fashion Icon
By Gaetane
The Algerian born designer’s couture contributions are exhibited at the Petit Palais in Paris. Until Aug 29th celebrated creations such as the Crêpe Georgette dress, the Mondrian, Le Smoking and the Ensemble Saharienne are on visual display. Like the designer, this exhibit is the first one of its kind, paying homage to the artwork of an over 40-year span by Yves St. Laurent himself.
Complete immersion into the world of Yves are depicted comprehensively. His remarkable friendships with Catherine Deneuve and Loulou de la Falaise as well as links to socialite women from Bianca Jagger to Carla Bruni (whom have frequently been photographed in YSL), make it hard not to fall completely enamored with these magnificent pieces.
The incredible one of a kind designs have been maintained by the Fondation Pierre Bergé –Yves Saint Laurent which operates in the very space the designer utilized from 1974 until the fall of 2002 when YSL haute couture operations ceased.
For those of you YSL devotees who crave more of all things Yves the following video courtesy of Daily Motion shall satisfy your curiosity.
Tickets to the exhibit cost 12€ or $16 at the current exchange. Whether or not a trip to Paris is in the stars for you the next few months, a glimpse of the fascinating collection can be obtained by visiting: http://www.yslretrospective.com/

Daily Shrine | YSL the brand and the Man…
By Kimberly
Yeah I said it, YSL “The Man”, I mean he made garments that are still impossible to replicate beyond emulation. Heck, he was head designer at the Couture House of Dior at 21 and even beat Karl Lagerfeld in the International Wool Secretariat competition. In 1983 he became the first living fashion designer to be honored by the Metropolitan Museum of Art with a solo exhibition. YSL was great at creating timeless style and making a woman feel like a lady. He also started mainstreaming the idea of wearing silhouettes from the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s. He was the first, in 1966, to popularize ready-to-wear in an attempt to democratize fashion, with Rive Gauche and the boutique of the same name. He was also the first designer to use black models in his catwalk shows….Kudos to YSL, This daily shrine goes to YSL the brand and the Man!
