Nicolas Ghesquière is giving us a new kind of sensuality for Spring 2011. Punk is the word for his new collection and he juxtaposes the reference with feminine tailored silhouettes. The theme is felt in leather motorcycle jackets and creeper shoes, but it is not in the least bit overdone.
Prints anchor the pieces including a pied de coq print on cocoon coats, fitted blouses and skirts, beautiful futuristic geometric prints on dresses and a kind of new-age lace print on collared sleeveless shirts. Futuristic is something Balenciaga always does so well with surreal silhouettes, but this season the pieces seem more down to earth and wearable.
Ghesquière also brings back supermodels that haven’t graced the runways in ages including Gisele Bundchen, Stella Tennant, Carolyn Murphy and Amber Valletta. It is also nice to see a pregnant Miranda Kerr walk, with her baby bump hidden of course.
