UPTOWN Magazine caught up with model Gate Maya Haile, who you may remember from their Gourmet Issue as the wife of star chef Marcus Samuelsson. In the interview Gate talks about how she became a model and her favorite designers.
This Ethiopian-born beauty started her modeling career in Holland where she studied nursing. At the hospital, colleagues would question her reason for working there, and encouraged her to be a model. The encouragement was persuasive, as she decided to move to Paris and pursue a modeling career.
Haile began modeling six years ago and has been climbing her way to being a top model. “Even though I am very young in fashion, I feel like I’ve [loved] it all my life. So I always do appreciate designer creations. Classics like Valentino, Diane Von Furstenberg, Donna Karan, and young designers as well – I admire their creations,” Haile said.
Haile’s flawless bronzed skin stands out in a silk tuxedo ninetta dress by Rubin Chapelle. Her look was accessorized with gold and black horn earrings by Circa Sixty Three, silver and copper double bangles with stones by Laruicci and shoes by Charlotte Olympia for Duro Olowu.
Another photo depicts Haile as the modern career woman in tilt blouse, sequin reptile print pant and python belt by Edwing D’Angelo, and shoes by Lilliana.
