A month after Vogue Italia‘s “Black Allure” spread, American Vogue decides to do their own take on an all-black spread with “The Life Rhapsodic”. “A bohemian cast of artist and models welcome the season in an exuberant riot of color and print” is how it is described and it is really a beautiful and lively depiction of not only black models, but black artists as well. Norma Jean Roy is behind the lens and Edward Enninful styles the shoot.

In the spread are Arlenis Sosa, Jourdan Dunn, Ajak Deng, Chanel Iman, Joan Smalls and Anais Mali. Artists included are singer, philanthropist and activist John Legend, dancers Savion Glover and Antoine Douthit, writer Colson Whitehead and actor Anthony Mackie.

Fashions include beautiful printed and vibrant pieces from some of the industry’s most coveted designers: Marc Jacobs’ silk jumpsuit, Z Zegna leather (on Legend), Giorgio Armani (on Glover) Alberta Ferretti, Dior and Dolce & Gabbana chiffon dresses, Lanvin and YSL belts, Nina Ricci, Louis Vuitton and Oscar de la Renta sandals, silk dresses from Louis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren and Roberto Cavalli, entire looks from Galliano and Chanel and so much more.

Throughout the past year, there has been so much scrutiny placed on the relationships between black men and women and this spread really shows both in complete harmony and in a beautiful light. Not only that, but it gives notoriety to black men doing positive things in music, art and the literary world and men such as these are rarely given any shine.

Vogue might not even know the power of this spread, but we hope that they have more to come just like it.
