Queen Elizabeth II, the longest reigning Monarch of England and Head of the Commonwealth, has died. Elizabeth was the oldest daughter of Prince Albert, Duke of York. Elizabeth had little interest to succeed the throne until her Uncle, Edward VIII, relinquished under her father’s name as her father became King George VI. In 1951, King George VI’s health went in rapid decline. She became Queen Elizabeth officially in 1952 and her son Charles became heir.

It was not until the 1990s is when the Monarch was placed under harsh scrutiny. Charles and Princess Diana separated and so did Prince Andrew and his wife, Sarah, duchess of York. Also, a fire erupted in the royal residence of Windsor Castle. A recession prompted the royal family’s reputation to look unfavorable. The divorce of Prince Charles and Diana landed the royal family’s reputation to go under water. Then, the unimaginable happened: the car crash that killed Princess Diana of Wales in 1997. The public was weary at that point.

In 2002, the Queen celebrated her 50th year in her role. England was in celebratory mode and held many festivities to celebrate the Golden Jubilee. It wasn’t until the latter part of the 21st century that the royal family’s reputation rebounded with the wedding of Prince William in 2011 and Prince Harry in 2018, respectively.

In 2005, Charles remarried Camilla Parker Bowles to the Queen’s resentment. Queen Elizabeth II called her “a wicked woman” for splitting up the marriage of Charles and Diana. Camilla and the Queen resolved their conflicts and were in a better place before the Queen passed.

In 2017, the Queen limited public engagements and activities. In March 2020, Prince Harry, the duke of Sussex, and his bride, Meghan, duchess of Sussex gave up their roles in the Monarchy to become United States citizens, which caused much of a stir in England and all over the world.

Her husband, Duke Philip of Edinburgh, died in 2021. Back in 1997, Elizabeth had said of Philip, “He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years.” The queen sat alone in a pew at St. George’s Chapel for her husband’s funeral due to Covid restrictions. Those images alone resounded with the commonwealth for some time as a symbol of hope and strength.

In 2022, she celebrated 70 years on the throne for her Platinum Jubilee. a four-day national holiday that included the Trooping the Color ceremony, a Thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral, a music concert at Buckingham Palace, and a pageant that employed street arts, theatre, music, circus, carnival, and costume to honor the queen’s reign.

In recent days, many rushed by her side as her health deteriorated. Queen Elizabeth II favored a life of simplicity and wanted little to do with the business side of things. Prince Charles has now taken over as the King of England.

The Queen’s Style

The Queen’s style was an impeccable one. She wore bright, elegant dresses and gowns with embroidered feathered hats with her purses always hanging from her arm that left her standing out in a crowd and favored by the monarch simultaneously. Her tiara, pearls, pendants, sash, and gloves made her a Queen of the ages. Her fashion comes full circle as Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi emulates her style in today’s modern era. Her style is one for the books and sets trends of continuity. She knew how to balance the life of someone in the public eye and for that of England’s royalty.  She we always be remembered for her regal style and fashions long before the era of the celebrity.

Queen Elizabeth II was 96.

POSHGLAM Mourns Her Majesty

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away on 8 September 2022, surprising many people. Most people have known her all of their lives because of her long reign spanning seven decades.

I adore Her Majesty and really enjoyed painting her alongside Meghan Markle. As I mourn her loss, I celebrate her fashion sense and am thrilled by her wearing of hot pink and black, our POSHGLAM colors.

The queen’s fashion sense illuminated the world. She was quintessentially POSHGLAM, a true trifecta of Smart. Fashionable. & Glamorous. The Queen wore many colors: yellow, lime green, purple, red, blue, turquoise, and baby pink. She will always be remembered for her great love for bolds, brooches, gloves, and handbags. Queen Elizabeth II particularly enjoyed wearing glamorous hats and gloves and carried herself with grace and elegance.

The late queen did not always wear the formal, serious-looking colorful box skirts she is famous for today. In her younger years, she wore various designs, such as floral dresses, heels and pastel coat dresses.

Over the years, Queen Elizabeth also wore beautiful gowns when attending special occasions such as her birthday parties. In 2012, she wore a metallic gown and paired it with a silver bag at an event in the Royal Albert Hall.

When traveling to different countries, she would wear dresses that had something unique about the country to show acknowledgment for the local culture.

She is believed to have worn brightly colored clothes so she could be easily visible in a crowd. Therefore, Queen Elizabeth used clothes to communicate various messages to the public.

In her early years as a queen, she hired royal dressers such as Hardy Amies and Norman Hartnell. They helped her make unique and elegant dresses. For example, in 1947, Hartnell came up with the design for her wedding dress which was made using duchesse satin.

She didn’t just wear stylish clothes; they were also practical. Stuart Parvin has revealed to The Daily Mail that he prevented the queen’s skirts from getting blown by the wind by sewing in curtain accessories along the hems. Indeed, Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II was a fashion Icon, and will truly be missed by all.
