Christian Dior Paris, Jessica Alba in Ariel Gordon & Florals For Spring: Groundbreaking!

Dior Jessica Alba Ariel Gordon Necklace Christian Dior Paris, Jessica Alba in Ariel Gordon & Florals For Spring: Groundbreaking!

Monday’s Christian Dior Haute Couture show in Paris was a stunner. Set in a tent in the Jardin des Tuileries, Raf Simons’ second haute couture collection for the design house sort of seemed like it took place in Never Never Land. Models so waiflike they almost seemed like they were going to fly away strutted through the tent in pixie-cut Jean Seberg wigs. With their flawless, effervescent skin and shiny red lips, they looked like Tinkerbell and her friends coming to rescue us with beautiful clothes. Kind of like fairies on haute couture crack.

The collection included ballet-length gowns, beautifully tailored suits, and lots and lots of layering and draping. Models walked down runways lined with perfectly manicured trees and landscapes designed by Belgian landscape architect Martin Wirtz. The tangerine oranges, rose pinks, lilac purples and bright greens were a good compliment to the backdrop, as were the tiny little silk flowers and petals that decorated many of the pieces in the collection. They were a great take on a typical trend for Spring, but I couldn’t help but think to myself, “Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.Miranda Priestly, you own my soul.

But enough about the couture gowns, let’s talk about what the real people were wearing—the celebrities. Celebrities like Jessica Alba. One of our best dressed at the Golden Globes winners, Alba looked like she was straight out of a 1920’s Paris photograph. With her hair pulled back in an elegant bun at the nape of her neck, a flawless brown smoky eye, and red lips, she could easily pass for a doll. She sported a navy blue velvet coat worn with a black dress underneath, black tights, black heels, and a black clutch (navy blue and black—we told you it was good). Around her neck, Jessica wore an Ariel Gordon Jewelry Signet Dog Tag Necklace. And for just $590, you can have your own beautiful 14k gold Ariel Gordon necklace. Now if only we could just have Jessica Alba’s closet… Oh, and all the florals from Dior.

Yes We Are Late, Surgence of Emerald | Did Someone Say “Money”?

Emerald 2013 Yes We Are Late, Surgence of Emerald | Did Someone Say Money? Ok, so we are late, but our two cents aren't: colors evoke certain feelings for us, and are choosen for a reason. Blue evokes feelings of calm while red may be worn when angry. In times when there's a struggling economy and things seem like looking up, everyone goes straight for the green in lieu of something less expensive. Green–the color of money, the color of wealth, the color of power, hello! It represents not only success but also the achievement of the American Dream. But it’s not just green, or moss or even olive that people are flocking to this year. It’s emerald, and it’s 2013's color of the year!

Despite trends in everything else, coming or going, the feelings the trends represent are everpresent. Just like the emerald light at the end of Daisy Buchanan’s dock representing both hope and the American Dream for Gatsby, emerald represents hope for a better future in 2013 and beyond.

Pre-Fall 2013 Runways were stuffed with emerald green creations. Gucci to Zac Posen, Kenzo and let's just say everyone in between, pushed it as the only standout color alive and flourishing. Acne and Sportmax sent sleeveless pantsuits in emerald satin and cotton down the runway, while Zac Posen and Gucci opted for beautiful evening gowns in flowing chiffon and voluminous tulle. Burberry was prim and proper with cocktail dresses in metallic emerald leather and a more subdued emerald lace. As for Pre-Fall 2013, Oscar de la Renta did ladylike jackets and skirt suits  dresses in emerald while J Mendel featured an emerald knee-length mink coat. Let's just say this never-green always emerald, represents a resurgence.

Gatsby's belief in the green light gave his aspirations hope for a better tomorrow, let's take a hint from the fashion industry and feel the optimistic symbolism behind our favorite color, for now, and all of the pantone variations to be discovered and celebrated. How's that for CASH MONEY!

Battleground Fashion, Yotam Solomon Unveils “War in Iraq” Shoe Collection

Yotam Soloman Battleground Fashion, Yotam Solomon Unveils “War in Iraq” Shoe CollectionA blatant political statement, Yotam Solomon unveiled “War in Iraq” during New York Fashion Week 2012. Solomon’s collection is inspired by the major historical events and their consequences on the world. Focusing specifically on battling terrorists in Iraq and Afghanistan and the effects on society, Solomon demonstrated how cultural clashes change our lives and history through fashion. The collection relates to the way we, and our governments, operate to raise awareness and understanding about the current occupancy of the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“After the success of the ’Oil Spill’ collection, designed to raise awareness and funds to clean the BP Spill, and my ‘Drug & DNA’ Collection, I wanted to create a line that was inspired by the Iraq war and it’s relation to our society, personal life, and future as humans,” says Solomon. “Living in Hollywood is nothing close to being in a battle field, from parties to gym sessions, one seldom thinks of war.” Solomon grew up in Israel where he was exposed to actual battles and learned at a young age the importance of seeking the truth and not always believing your government’s political agenda.

“War in Iraq” offers a wide range of personalized options for trims and colors. The collection is all about individualism using army life and desert living motifs as recurring thought-provoking themes. Details such as cutouts, exotic skins, natural fibers, hand stitched overlay trims, contrasting colors inspired by different opinions, and custom low impact dyes create this revolutionary and politically charged collection.

During the past year the Yotam Solomon brand has collaborated on new collections and has sparked interest from his Hollywood neighbors including Stacy Keibler, Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian, and Nikki Reed, as well as companies such as Coca-Cola and LG.

AMAZE! Runway Looks | Spring 2013 Shoe Fetish

Shoe Fetish Complete Layout AMAZE! Runway Looks | Spring 2013 Shoe Fetish A shoe fetish in our world means money well spent and people well–trampled. It is not even Halloween and already we are digging for coins in our grandmother’s couch to make sure our spring wardrobe includes these serious sh&% kickers.

Gianvito Rossi for Altuzarra’s strapping, knee-high sandals are sporting (gasp!) at least a six-inch heel, but will look amazing when worn with hot pants and a cute blazer for a spring night out. Just make sure you hail a cab to and fro – these puppies are not meant for walking blocks to dinner…or home after your one night stand–clearing my throat, NEW YORK walk of SHAME.

Anna Sui never disappoints our fashion expectations. The designer’s Spring 2013 collection delivers a daring range of monster-high boots, flirty and carefree heels adorned with sweetheart details and, who could miss, the wedge sandals bejeweled with studs and buckles (did we mention the leopard print?). Sui’s pointy, lacquered kitten heels (with strap at the toe) will certainly be the garnish atop of your ensemble, or lack there of you effing slut.

Prada’s Spring 2013 collection embraces the Orient with satins and kimonos, but it’s the design powerhouse’s hot pink geisha boots with sky-high heel that really made our jaws drop. Paired with a tight satin pencil skirt in traditional kimono motif, the Red Sea of people on Madison Avenue will part as you arrive on the scene $$$

Rag & Bone unveiled a shoe-boot combo that was simply mah-ve-lous! The chunky-heel bootie is more like a shoe with lacing over the heel and we are dying for it to arrive in stores.

Brace yourselves for the outer-space-inspired sandal from Rodarte. This futuristic sandal has a manageably-high heel and holographic details that, believe it or not, will take a mundane spring wardrobe and inspire it to be a couture hit, especially when the weather perks up after a sleepy winter or another one night stand.

We want to get married in these two! Or, at least, go on a fantastic holiday to the South of France. We are madly in love with the Jason Wu lace pumps with diamond-inspired embellished heels and Emilio Pucci’s off-white sandals with the wedge carved out in patterns taken from Oriental ivory craftsmanship.

No need to say more, we rest our case.

MARNI Spring/Summer 2013

marni spring summer 20131 MARNI Spring/Summer 2013

The new Spring/Summer 2013 Marni collection has us swooning over its pure beauty and gorgeous textures. Described as “a weightless exploration of volume,” the Marni 2013 designs are light and airy, A-line, carefree with clean silhouettes and sculpted lines. The look that grabbed our attention immediately was the way Marni mixed and matched checks: black and white with color – it felt like an optical illusion walking the runway.

Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll be wearing this spring:

The basics: Straight and round are juxtaposed just as the front and the back are: a square top is paired with a flared skirt; what looks like a sleeveless coat turns sideways into a blouson. Short-sleeved shirts and matching pants are as efficient as uniforms; basques bring focus on the hips; flowery patterns are feisty.

The palette: Prints highlight and gently distort the neatness of the design. Checks and sequences of sliced dots have a hypnotic rhythm. Block flowers and simultaneous motifs entertain the eye. The color palette is essential, with delicate accents and deep peaks: white, black, dark green, touches of aqua, pale grey, orange, red, purple.

The texture: Dresses look like fabric was folded, rather than cut, into the final shape; pleats and peplums create sensuous additions on tops and skirts. Firm, compact fabrics enhance the bare pureness of the designs using cotton canvas, tape jacquard and bonded leather.

The finale: Accessories have a modernist feel. Pointed open-toe slingbacks with a metal wedge and wooden platform flats resemble sinuous architectures. Bags are precise and boxy styles with padlocks, rectangular models in geometric weaves of leather and PVC, oversized purses.

The beauty book: As spring and summer tend to be about “barely there” makeup, Marni did not disappoint. We saw a lot of minimal, natural-toned makeup, hair parted on the side and swept into a low, messy bun.
