Farai Simoyi debuts at New York Fashion Week with a Spring Summer 2011 collection for the ‘woman, warrior, wayward traveler.’ Farai, the London born, Zimbabwe and West Virginia raised designer has stepped out from behind the scenes of the fashion design world and into the forefront, Farai is woman here her roar. We’re always told it takes more than passion and talent to make it in the fashion industry. Some say it takes a sort of ‘je ne sais quoi,’ and they’re right, because what that literally means is ‘I don’t know what.’
One of the most beautiful things about fashion is the power it has to bring elements of different cultures together, another is the way that you can understand a designer’s whole lives and individual experiences through their work. The Farai Simoyi Spring Summer 2011 collection took the feel of Zimbabwean prints, and combined them with a sort of London meets American style to create a
Spring Summer 2011 collection that brought a world of culture to New York this season. Farai’s use of bright colors, nude tones, and African prints revamped eighties and nineties cool into modern vogue.
We expect the
Farai Simoyi label to flourish over the next few years into a versatile brand that would make Xena warrior princess look like a wimp, we also expect Farai to take risks and enhance the wayward traveler out of us all. We have high expectations for the development of this brand, we are well aware that her world travels and the time she has spent honing her skills have given this promising young designer a repertoire that will take us all over the world in style.
