Emerging Icon: Chanel Iman

By Kimberly

So we grabbed a poli and ran with it, why not? Chanel Iman is a force to be reckoned with. Emerging Icon, Fashionstar at only 20 years old is one of the most famous sought after faces for the glossies and beyond. One of the first ethnic women to grace the cover of Teen Vogue and American Vogue (folded in :( ) and still counting covers and accolades. We love Miss Iman (Robinson) and have to say, she’s going fabulous places and taking a great attitude with her. After winning the Ford SuperModel of the World Contest in 2006, she has climbed through the ranks of superstardom as a respected face of color in the Euro-Centric beauty/fashion industry. It’s nice to see a black girl hold it down so well. Though I do find her to be a bit thin for the VS Campaigns (ha ha), she’s beautiful and is a nice role model for young ones that want to get into the industry. The internet is a buzz about her new boutique, Red Bag Boutique (Coming Soon!), still waiting to see what she has in store and looking forward to the assortment.

Daily Shrine | Donna Karan Launches iPhone App.

By Kimberly

“With me, it’s never just about the clothes. It’s about a lifestyle and commonality that I share with my consumer. This iPhone application is the modern evolution of the time I spend with my customers in the dressing room. Only now I can reach a world of women immediately, speaking woman to woman about clothes, objects of desire and personal passions. There is nothing faster, more mobile or more advanced in communication today.”- Donna Karan

The Donna Karan iPhone application was designed in partnership with Atimi Software Inc. and launched today to coincide with her Fall 2009 Collection delivery. In this new unique vehicle of woman to woman communication, Karan talks fashion and personal passions. In addition to a made-for-consumer video where she discusses her Fall 2009 Collection, Karan shares everything from items she loves and chats with friends, to her recent vacation photos from Africa. iPhone users can call it up starting today.

This personal approach to an iPhone application is indeed rare, as is even the fashion connection. To date, the medium has only a small handful of designer sites. Yet none of those sites have the individual voice and conversational allure that Karan offers.

donnakaran“The design method applied to the iPhone application was to truly allow Donna Karan to connect with her clients in as personal a way as possible” said Scott Michaels, Atimi Vice President, developers of the iPhone application “every aspect was held up to the light to ensure it met the design objectives and had the level of polish and quality that is inherent in the Donna Karan brand.”

Karan’s iPhone content is truly unique, from both a brand and sales perspective. This will be the first site to feature an in-dept fashion video called “System of Dressing” where Karan discusses the strategy and the how-tos of maximizing the flexibility of the clothes. Further, the application will be the first to invite a consumer to create a wish list of items, with the option to forward to a personal shopper for the ultimate “Shop on the Go” experience.

Then there’s Donna’s Journal, where new content is added weekly. This is where Karan shares her thoughts and passions of her brand and life of the moment, giving Donna Karan loyalists the ability to connect with Donna beyond the runway….This Daily Shrine goes to Donna Karan and her hip iPhone App.

Daily Shrine: Blake Lively at Burberry

By Kimberly

If you’re going to a party honoring one of the world’s best fashion labels, you had better be on your style A game. Fortunately for “Gossip Girl” Blake Lively, on the scene to fete Burberry, she was. I love, love, love Blake’s heather-gray tee paired with a rolled-up boyfriend blazer (a wardrobe must right now) and a foxy wool skirt. Burberry sometimes has a reputation for being too classic and traditional, but Blake proves that the label can do modern and fashion-forward as well as anyone else.

Daily Shrine: Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt at Cannes

By Kimberly

With all due respect to those on Team Aniston, it just doesn’t get any hotter than this. Dream couple Angelina Jolie, stunning in a tea rose Versace Atelier with a dramatic slit and a knockout pair of legs, and Brad Pitt, handsome as ever in his tux, stole the show at the Cannes premiere of his new film, “Inglourious Basterds.” Let’s face it-Angelina would look gorgeous in a sweatsuit paired with orange Crocs, but this ’40s-era look-complemented by loose waves, a crimson pout, and killer champagne satin heels-particularly suits her. We’re not worthy!

Daily Shrine: Victoria Beckham

By Kimberly

They didn’t call her Posh Spice for nothing. Victoria Beckham was the picture of style perfection as she stepped out in a to-die-for (and timeless!) black and white polka-dot trench accented with large black shades, Louboutin heels, and her signature Hermes Birkin in black. Divine. Though Victoria’s had her share of misses here and there, I think she’s hit it out of the ballpark here. It’s very Audrey Hepburn, very glamorous, and very luxe. Love it, love it, love it.

Daily Shrine | Kate Bosworth at The Met Gala

By Kimberly

There were plenty of fierce looks to feast on at this year’s Met’s Costume Institute Gala-Rihanna’s tux, Kate Hudson’s gold glam, Jessica Alba’s sparkly Jason Wu-but nobody captured the evening’s tradition of drama better than Kate Bosworth. Looking like a dead ringer for Veronica Lake, the young actress sizzled in this lace-accented Stella McCartney gown accessorized with retro waves, red lipstick, and Fred Leighton jewelry. The look is sophisticated, mysterious, and just a little bit vampy, and stood out from the pack of pretty but ultimately less dramatic cocktail frocks on the scene. That’s why this daily shrine goes to Kate Bosworth. Work it, girl.

Now…can we talk about that turquoise thing on Madonna’s head?

Daily Shrine | YSL the brand and the Man…

By Kimberly

Yeah I said it, YSL “The Man”, I mean he made garments that are still impossible to replicate beyond emulation. Heck, he was head designer at the Couture House of Dior at 21 and even beat Karl Lagerfeld in the International Wool Secretariat competition. In 1983 he became the first living fashion designer to be honored by the Metropolitan Museum of Art with a solo exhibition. YSL was great at creating timeless style and making a woman feel like a lady.  He also started mainstreaming the idea of wearing silhouettes from the 1920s, ’30s and ’40s. He was the first, in 1966, to popularize ready-to-wear in an attempt to democratize fashion, with Rive Gauche and the boutique of the same name.  He was also the first designer to use black models in his catwalk shows….Kudos to YSL, This daily shrine goes to YSL the brand and the Man!

Daily Shrine | Kate Moss

By Kimberly

Why Kate Moss you ask? Why not? Everyone else is using her! Kate is such a ham, with over 300 mag covers to date, she is most deserving. At her measly height of 5′7 she has been voted one of the most successful supermodels in history, making over 9million a year. “Moss was discovered in 1988 at the age of 14 by Sarah Doukas, the founder of Storm Model Management, at JFK Airport in New York City, after a holiday in Jamaica. Moss’s career began when Corinne Day shot black and white photographs of her, styled by Melanie Ward, for British magazine The Face when she was 15, in a photo shoot titled “The Third Summer of Love”. Moss then went on to become the “anti-supermodel” of the 1990s in contrast to the “supermodels” of the moment, such as Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, and Naomi Campbell, who were known for their curvaceous and tall figures.”(Wikipedia) Her career is still soaring and she’s well into her thirties.  This daily shrine goes to Kate Moss, for Top Shop, Yurman and many more to before!
