#FLOTUS Bangs & @JasonWu Double Time for @MichelleObama

Michelle Obama Inauguration Gown Flotus Jason Wu #FLOTUS Bangs & @JasonWu Double Time for @MichelleObama

We were experiencing a slight case of déjà vu last night as Michelle Obama dazzled us in yet another Jason Wu stunner. For the evening portion of the 2013 Presidential Inauguration, Mrs. Obama wore a red chiffon and velvet gown by the designer, who also designed her white inauguration gown four years ago.  Obama paired the gown with red Jimmy Choo heels and a Kimberly McDonald diamond ring.

President and First Lady Obama attended the Commander-in-Chief’s Ball at the beginning of the evening, where they shared their first dance together this term. “Ladies and gentlemen, my better half, and my dance partner, Michelle Obama,” President Obama said as he brought his wife on stage. The two danced to Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together,” performed by singer Jennifer Hudson.

The second Ball of the night was the Inaugural Ball held at the Convention Center. Here, more than 30,000 guests watched as the Obamas danced again to Jennifer Hudson. This ball, which first took place in 2009, is open to the public with tickets that cost as low as $60. Alicia Keys, Brad Paisley, and Stevie Wonder performed, among others.

Thanks to his white gown that he designed for Michelle Obama for the 2008 Inaugural Ball, housewives and soccer moms all over America know Wu's name and are fans of his designs. André Leon Talley, editor-at-large of Vogue, introduced Wu to Mrs. Obama and she is said to be a career-launcher for him. While some designers submitted multiple designs for consideration, the red gown was the only one submitted by Wu. Just like the rest of us, he had no idea Michelle chose his dress for the event until she appeared on stage Monday night.

The red gown from Monday night’s festivities was decorated around the neckline by real diamonds. The added glitz not only added some glamour to the ensemble, but also lent an air of maturity and confidence to Michelle, who has become a fixture in fashion magazines and blogs worldwide. This is definitely an appropriate look for the night. It’s vibrant and classy, but at the same time subdued, and the way it flowed behind her as she walked down the stairs onto stage for she and her husband’s first dance was breathtaking. Ahhhhh!

Michelle Obama Power Bangs #FLOTUS Bangs & @JasonWu Double Time for @MichelleObama

Cut to the chase: One thing we couldn’t help but notice about the First Lady’s overall appearance was her bangin’ bangs. Mrs. Obama, who has had basically the same shoulder length haircut throughout her husband’s presidency, recently had a little style makeover in the form of fringe. Everyone’s completely obsessed with it and it’s easy to see why: she looks younger and her face looks slimmer. Who doesn’t want that? Many women, especially those who are middle-aged like Michelle might be a bit weary of chopping off some of their hair like that, but Mrs. Obama is clearly a bossy, no-nonsense lady who knows what she wants and knows what will look good on her. And now if you or a friend wants to rock some Michelle Obama bangs for a day or a night, you can. With Hairdo by HairUWear Clip-In Bangs, you can go from long bangs to short bangs with the click of a clip. Remember when Samantha Jones wore a different wig everyday? This is kind of like that, but much less shocking. For the bossy girl who has everything and isn’t afraid to change her hair like she changes her shoes, this is the perfect gift for Valentines Day, a Birthday, or just any day.

Although it can almost go without saying that Michelle Obama is one smokin’ hot mama with an awesome sense of style, there are some things that require further explanation. Like FLOTUS. Who the hell is FLOTUS? What exactly does that mean? Who made it up? Upon further investigation, we found out that FLOTUS is actually Mrs. Obama’s Twitter handle. The First Lady’s staff manages her second twitter account, which was launched on her 49th birthday last week. The twitter handle is obviously an acronym for “First Lady of the United States,” but what were confused about is why everyone keeps using this as a synonym for Michelle Obama. Like, we get it, she’s the first lady, and it kind of rolls off the tongue, but you don’t see people going around calling Anna Wintour ‘EICOV’ (Editor-in-Chief of Vogue) or calling  President Obama ‘POTUS.’ When did it become cool to use acronyms instead of actual names? Are these the people who go around saying LOL out loud instead of actually laughing? Stop using acronyms, people. STOP TRYING TO MAKE FLOTUS HAPPEN. IT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

Wowzers Beauty & Fashion, #GoldenGlobe Style

Kerry Washington Lancome Wowzers Beauty & Fashion, #GoldenGlobe StyleWe’re kind of obsessed with Kerry Washington. Just kind of. Everything she wears is phenomenal, but what about her beauty routine? Her skin is always flawless, her hair always in place, and her make up always complements her outfits perfectly. At Sunday’s Golden Globes, held at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, Washington wore a beautiful Miu Miu sheer dress. Sequins up and down the dress accented the nude colored ensemble. She accessorized with nude pumps, a nude minaudière, and a diamond bracelet and ring. John Freida star hairstylist Marcus Francis styled her textured hair straight and sleek using Frizz-Ease 3-Day Straight Semi-Permanent Styling Spray ($9.99, drugstores) and Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Crème ($5.99, drugstores). Want the look? Comb the Styling Spray through wet hair, blow dry straight, flat iron section by section, and finish with the finishing crème. Voila! And did we mention her new subtle blond highlights? We’re obsessed and totally digging the dimension.

Her makeup artist for the event, Carola Gonzalez, wanted to complement Kerry’s look with a bold eye and muted lip. Here’s how she achieved the look:

Face: Gonzalez used Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra 24H Foundation in Suede N 450 ($44, Sephora) all over her face. This foundation stays put for 24 hours (no need for touchups—a must on the red carpet), and has a velvety smooth finish. She highlighted her cheeks with Lancôme Blush in Pommettes D’Amour ($49, Nordstrom).

Eyes: Gonzalez added a splash of color to Washington’s eyes with Lancôme Color Design Infinité 24H Eye Shadow in Evermore Lilac ($24.50, Macy’s). She then added dimension with Lancôme Color Design Eye Shadow in Mochaccino ($19, Sephora). Lastly, she accented with Lancôme Artliner in Smoke ($30, Sephora) and Lancôme Hypnôse Star Mascara ($28, Sephora).

Lips: Gonzalez finished the look with a muted lip, using Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in 500 Blush ($32, Barney’s New York).
Nina Dobrev Unite Wowzers Beauty & Fashion, #GoldenGlobe StyleNina Dobrev looked sweet and feminine at the InStyle Golden Globe Party, dazzling onlookers in Oscar de la Renta, Oroton and Jimmy Choo. Her tea-length light blue gown, from the designers Spring 2013 runway, featured flower cutouts and was absolutely gorgeous. And talk about arm candy–she carried beautiful Oroton Satin Zip Top Clutch in Caribbean Waters. And what better way to complement the 24-year-old Vampire Diaries actress’ look than with a classic bun—with a modern twist, that is. Dobrev’s hairstylist, Riawna Capri, used UNITE Hair Care products to create the look, which she described as, “Sweet and polished with a unique twist.” Nina is a classic brunette, with luscious and long locks that she usually wears cascading down her shoulders in curls. It’s so refreshing to see her hair pulled up in such a chic new take on a classic ‘do. Here’s how to achieve the look yourself:

To start, Capri washed Dobrev’s hair using U LUXURY shampoo and conditioner, which are both infused with crushed pearl, Hawaiian white honey and Argan oil. To detangle and protect, she used UNITE 7SECONDS Conditioner. Next, to smooth the hair she blew it dry with the UNITE 9-Row Denman Brush. Then, with her head flipped over, Capri braided Nina’s hair from the nape of her neck to the crown of her head. The rest of the hair was pulled up into a classic ponytail. UNITE BEACH DAY Spray was spritzed through the ponytail for texture, and Capri then styled it into a chic bun. The final touch was UNITE GO356 Hairspray for hold and UNITE SHINA-Mist for shine.

We’re absolutely in love with the hair! It’s so reminiscent of Carrie Bradshaw’s take on the classic bun, which she rocked all the time, but with a modern and young twist. And the best part is you can totally do this look at home. You might want to enlist the help of a friend for the braid, but the rest is a piece of cake.
Julie Bowen Colorescience Wowzers Beauty & Fashion, #GoldenGlobe StyleJulie Bowen looked smoking hot on the red carpet. The beautiful blond always seems to get it right when it comes to both fashion and beauty. You’ll never see her tresses looking brassy—Bowen seems to have found the key to finding the perfect balance between an ashy and brilliant blond that never looks orange or dull. The Modern Family star walked the red carpet in a beautiful one shoulder turquoise Halston gown. She complemented it with a dark clutch and shoes, as well as drop earring and layers of bangles. Talk about an arm party.

Her makeup was effortlessly flawless. Makeup artist to the stars, Heather Currie, gave Bowen a bronzed collection and a dramatic smoky eye using products from Colorescience. Want to achieve the look? Here’s how:

Currie started off using Colorescience Skin Bronzing Face Primer SPF 20 to add a bronzed glow to Bowen’s skin. She then applied Colorescience Sheer Crème Foundation, finishing her face with a pressed mineral powder to set the foundation. A shimmer bronzer was applied to the cheek bones and pink powder blush was dusted on the apples of her cheeks. To create the smoky eye, Currie blended Colorescience Loose Mineral Eye Colore in Black Matte and Smoke Matte to Bowen’s eyelid, starting at the lashline and smudging upwards with a flat eye shadow brush. Next, she used Colorescience Loose Mineral Eye Colore in Silver Shimmer blended with a teal to fill in the lid. She then accented the brow bone and inner corner of the eye with a white shimmer shadow. The finishing touch for the eyes was undereye concealer, Colorescience Mascara, and a blend of silver and teal shadows along the bottom of the eye. To keep the focus on the eyes, Currie applied nude lip liner all over Bowen’s lips, followed by pink gloss.

The end result? Ravishing. You go, Julie Bowen, you sexy mama.

Chris McMillan who Styles Jennifer Aniston’s Tresses, Joins Living Proof

Chris McMillan and Jennifer Aniston Living Proof Chris McMillan who Styles Jennifer Anistons Tresses, Joins Living Proof

When you hear the name Jennifer Aniston, what do you think? A few qualities definitely come to mind: amazing body, great style, and, above all else, iconic hair. From her signature “Rachel” ‘do to her long and sleek golden locks, Jen’s got some of the best hair in the industry. So it’s no surprise that Cambridge, MA-based beauty line Living Proof, of which Jen is co-owner and hair care spokesperson, has taken on Chris McMillan, Aniston’s longtime hair stylist, as their new celebrity hairstylist.

Living Proof isn’t your typical salon hair care product—it was founded by a team of biotech scientists. According to the company’s spokesperson, they “invent and patent breakthrough technologies to solve the world’s toughest beauty problems.” In just five short years, they’ve won over 30 awards for their products. Not to get all science-y on you, but that sounds like some pretty sound reasoning for a star like Aniston to endorse them.

McMillan is no stranger to breakthrough beauty products. He’s known for being able to take a client with completely damaged hair and give them a full 360. With the help of Living Proof’s Restore hair products, which Aniston introduced to him, and a few inches taken off the ends, his clients come back with unbelievably healthy hair within two months.

And Jen isn’t his only famous client. McMillan is responsible for the gorgeous manes of Miley Cyrus, Michele Williams, and the very sexy Hugh Jackman (he’s got some serious flow), as well as cover looks for Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Rolling Stone. Science can only go so far, but it takes a roster like that to convince me that a stylist and hair care line is really worth it.
But honestly, I’ll try any hair product that Aniston is the spokesperson for because, come on, she has the most gorgeous hair ever.  And if I had known about this product before, maybe the hours and hours I’ve spent trying to emulate her sleek, gorgeous hair might’ve been saved. But probably not.

Loving the Kinky Curly Remedy for Coils

Kinky Curly 785x588 Loving the Kinky Curly Remedy for Coils

Are you ready for this? BLACK GIRLS have beautiful hair. When it’s wet, when it’s dry, when it’s kinky, nappy or straight. Let’s debunk the myth that the only “idea” of beautiful hair is stick straight and lifeless. Beautiful hair is something we should all flaunt, in it’s healthiest form. Textured tresses, coils and curls, should all be celebrated. Thank GOD for revolutionary haircare like Kinky-Curly, that’s designed to suit the needs of women of color and developed for coily purfection. Nothing wrong with naps and kinks, after all, textured tresses look best when full and thick.

Glad to see this brand has embarked on the promise of providing black girls with the lucious curls we all strive for and formulating products that make sense. I’m a HUGE fan of the Come Clean Shampoo, and didn’t need conditioner after because of the moisturizing properties. Many ‘natural’ gals, don’t understand that a clarifying shampoo is very important at least every other week to clease the cuticule and START FROM SCRATCH (Note: A true natural is without color or heat). Kinky-Curly was nice enough to gift these products to me as I transition from texturized to natural, happy to guinea pig with a smile and looking forward to returning compliments with their product suggestions.

Elasta QP Elasta QP Hosts A Talk Among Girl Friends & Debuts New Olive & Mango Butter
Hair-care is a hot-button topic among Women of Color, with so many textures and beautiful grades, it’s actually quite fun to bring up and discuss among women of ethnic decent. Our conversations debunk myths, defy stereotypes and bring forth a dialog paying homage to the innovators before who paved the way with Black haircare.

With technological advancements and a greater knowledge of what works, Women of Color are now able to easily rock their natural textured tresses, without sacrificing manageability or style. This is a direct result of research and technological changes and innovations for ethnic haircare. Women of Color have always had great beautiful textures, present day products with an East-MATCHED-West approach to beauty have developed the ingredient combinations to help provide a polished low-maintenance look for women in Corporate America. It’s an exciting time, we are able to celebrate who we are and still maintain a professional appearance with vast wear-ability.

In celebration of Elasta QP’s thirty-year anniversary, they have revitalized the formulas in a permeable solution for textured tresses.

“We’re excited to see that after thirty years, Elasta QP, a brand quintessentially known for it’s relaxers and sleek styling products, is entering into the natural hair space. I gathered with a number of influencers to chat round table style, for an intimate Q&A session hosted by Elasta QP at Atlanta’s BLT.
