Beauty Review: Oxygenated Facials in a Blissful World

Robe Bliss Facial 785x588 Beauty Review: Oxygenated Facials in a Blissful World

My first job in high school was working the front desk at a spa. Back then, I got collagen blankets for fun. Now, I get them out of necessity, to prevent sagging and aging skin.  I began researching collagen’s miracle like qualities and came to the realization that it’s exactly what my nearly thirty year old skin needs, much more today, than it did at 16. As women age, the collagen and elasticity in our skin slowly diminishes. I felt a facial was in order for a little healthy restoration and pampering.

However, all facials are not created equal. Some can leave you blistered, bruised and in worse condition than you started in. It’s important to be very particular about who tends to your skin. Just as you would be cautious about purchasing random products from your local apothecary, it’s vital to only allow aestheticians with proper industry practices and training to manage your product application. Before starting a new regimen for the skin, it’s best to visit a professional that knows their stuff.

If you’re a first-time spa-goer, be sure to check out the spa’s website to make sure it is up to date, review the services offered and pricing to make sure it is what you are looking for.  Read the spa’s policies for cancellations, directions, etc. You can also call the spa and ask for recommendations and possibly go for a tour prior to your appointment.  While there, speak to a technician, ask any questions that you feel would make your spa visit more memorable.

I called on Bliss Atlanta Downtown to show me how the best in the biz do their hygienic facial skin rituals. They have several facials that target anti-aging, breakouts, maturing skin, brightening and overall skin health and beauty. The Blissage 75 and the Triple Oxygen facial are their two most requested services.

The Bliss Spa in Downtown Atlanta is a spotlessly clean facility flooded with natural light on the 16th floor of 45 Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd.  They offer complimentary valet parking (unheard of in downtown Atlanta) and a complimentary glass of bubbly.  Guests may also use the pool as well if they want to make a day of it.

As I stepped into the spa, I was greeted by one of their homegrown aestheticians, Michelle. As she intro’d me into the marvelous assortment of Bliss and Affiliate products, she began to describe my skin type, “dry and parched with clogged areas.” After perusing the infinite world of lavish, lush facial treatments, I decided to put the Bliss Oxygen Facial to the test.

The hour+ long facial was well encompassed with a glycolic masque, vitamin C polish, and extractions (yuck) and sprayed on micellized vitamins, the ultimate luxe treatment for the skin. She removed a few blemishes from the center of the pore and assured me they would not return in the same place. How’s that for uprooting a problem! My t-zone was a trouble area and after a few squeezes I saw the once there black heads disappear with my own eyes.

I’ve had many facials in my lifetime, I would describe this one as healing, thorough and well versed. Michelle took great care of me and I was able to expand upon the knowledge that I had already gained from working in the spa biz. She really opened my eyes to the problems of my now adult skin and how to better treat my trouble areas. I love to experiment with natural products, so as she explained that hydration starts from within, and that many people should use exfoliation and SPF to avoid wrinkles, my mind started to boil with ideas for at home remedies. However, I had to remind myself to leave it to the experts and Bliss products and not to reinvent the wheel.

The main differentiating qualities of this facial were the plastic covering which created a steam effect and opened my pores and the gel-like masque that was used to penetrate the products. Michelle suggested that I frequent Bliss Spa monthly to bring my skin back to its proper levels of hydration. However, I will be going back within the next two weeks, how’s that for spoiled rotten?

For younger ladies, guests 16 and over can receive the ‘Fabulous Facial’ which is a great way to inspire you to create a skin care regimen early on. And let’s not forget about the fellas, Bliss also offers the “Ultimate He Wax” which is the male version of a Brazilian wax.

If you’re looking for the perfect get ready for summer spa package, I would start off with a full-leg Brazilian wax, the fully loaded facial, followed by the 135 minute Ginger Rub…take a 30 minute break for lunch delivered to the spa with a glass of bubbly and conclude with the shellac manicure and pedicure. Now that’s my idea of a blissful day.

Help Us Choose our Color Palette! POSHGLAM Collaboration with @MelBoteri for Charity

Mel Boteri Bag 632x383 Help Us Choose our Color Palette! POSHGLAM Collaboration with @MelBoteri for Charity

As international fashion weeks rapidly approach we have decided to partner with Melanie Mueller, designer behind custom bag company, Mel Boteri. We are finalizing our plans for a customizable, philanthropic handbag that not only will turn heads but will also change hearts.

My friend and designer, Melanie Meuller creates handbags that consumers can tweak to their liking through an online “design-your-own” site. After learning about my vision to create a customizable handbag that is functional, fashionable and philanthropic, Melanie agreed to partner in bringing the concept to life and will include the bag in her next collection, YAY! Forty-percent of the proceeds will go to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, a non-profit that both Melanie and I strongly support. I am super excited about this initiative and look forward to the support of the POSHGLAM readers. We are still deciding on colors and textures for the bag, please send your suggestions including links etc in the comments. Looking forward to your response!

We traded words with Melanie Mueller the dynamic designer behind Mel Boteri custom bags, and tapped into her ideas, inspirations and favorite things. What started out as a graduate school project has catapulted into a niche luxury brand, catering to those that love the finer things in life, and off the shelf just won’t do. Please see below, for our questions and Melanie’s responses:

What’s your favorite bag shape? If I had to pick just one it would be an over-sized Hobo.  I have a ton of everyday necessities, and love that I can throw everything into one bag and still look classy and put together.

What inspires you to design? My life experiences and the wonderful people I meet along the way.  I typically have someone in mind when creating a new design, and I use their unique style and lifestyle as inspiration to create something both fashionable and functional.

If you could customize a bag for any celeb, which ONE would it be? and why? Jennifer Lopez! She has always been a style icon in my eyes, and the fact that she is fearless and can pull off so many different looks would make customizing a bag for her a dream come true!

Tell us about your background and upbringing, what traits and influences make you the designer that you are? I’m a first generation American; my father is German and my mother Colombian.  Their cultures are quite different, but together I believe they created a balance of influences that have made me the designer I am today.  My father instilled in me a high self-esteem and an intense desire to work hard in order to be successful, while my mother taught me the beauty of life and how to enjoy every moment as if it were my last.  Together they have encouraged me to follow my passions, which is what I get to do every day.

How do you relate to your clients? With each new client I try to build a personal yet professional relationship.  My business is all about helping clients make their personal statement through custom fashion.  The more I get to know them and their unique style, lifestyle, and needs the better I can help them create something they will truly love and carry with confidence.

In theory, how should your bags fit into everyday life? In my opinion both fashion and function are key. Your handbag should be the final touch to polish off your look, but at the same time it should serve its purpose to carry the essentials you need to get you through your day or night.

Is there anything you would like to share with the POSHGLAM reader? One of my favorite quotes is by the fabulous Ms. Coco Chanel, “In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different.” I encourage the POSHGLAM reader to always hold this same confidence and celebrate their unique style.

Photographer, Greg Lotus hits HotLanta with critically-acclaimed work

lotus Photographer, Greg Lotus hits HotLanta with critically acclaimed work

Critically-acclaimed photographer for Vogue, Vanity Fair, and GQ, Greg Lotus will be bringing his latest exhibit, Aspiration and Artifice: The Constructed Visage to the Bill Lowe Gallery in Midtown Atlanta— or should we say, ‘Hot-lanta,’ GA on July 8th. The exhibit will include photographs that span Lotus’s 20 illustrious years in fashion/photography.

Surely, the guest list for the event will be star-studded with such celebrities as Penelope Cruz, Mary J. Blige, Katy Perry, Milla Jovovich, Eva Longoria, Pierce Brosnan, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Chris Brown, Channing Tatum and Elizabeth Hurley having served as some of Lotus’s muses for the series.

Many of Lotus’s works are inspired by classical paintings, his international travels and life experiences. The photographs are all beautifully shot and each have a unique quality that seems to captivate the viewer. The faces, the lighting, contrasts and contures of the muses all work brilliantly together to tell a story or evoke an emotion that can only be achieved by the hard work of a gifted artisan.

Lotus is among some of the art and fashion world’s most-respected photographers and model and jewelry designer, Molly Sims agrees with that recognition. Having hosted the NY opening of Lotus’s exhibit earlier this year, Sims remarked, “He’s a man that can make a woman so beautiful, but at the same time he has a fantasy eye which I love. I love his art and what it says and how it speaks to you.”

Lotus is a perfect of example of a creatively and exceptionally gifted individual with an ability to intertwine art and fashion by capturing the glamour of some of the world’s most beautiful people in the world’s most breath-taking places. Ultimately, it is this ability to speak to the viewer that has made Lotus’s exhibition one of the must-see photographic series of the year.

If you are going to be in Hot-lanta, GA this coming July 8th, then you had better visit the Bill Lowe Gallery to get the wonderful opportunity to meet the artist and to of course, see what all of the fuss is about. This exhibit and the opening party are events you can’t afford to miss!
