Parsons delivers true talent at AAS Line Debut

By Dee

Kanye West’s ‘Heartless’ should have been playing at the AAS Line Debut as emerging designer and recent graduate of Parsons The New School for Design’s AAS Program CJ Bryant unveiled a few of his pieces.  Wonderfully diverse, the Parson’s program includes students from all walks of life that are looking to further their career in the fashion industry.

The collection produced by Bryant oozes something that’s dark and deep, yet so tempting.  This collection has appeal; even if it’s heartache and betrayal.  Bryant insists on having a personal relationship with everything he creates, a belief coming from a true designer.  Various textures, intricate details, and a few personal touches are what brings his pieces to life.  Glancing at his collection, one will observe waxed canvas, zippers, hand-painted details, and seed beads.  The mixture is a surprise to see and even more striking once felt.

Bryant’s pieces tell a captivating story; such as his transforming clutch that lays flat, allowing it to be a zipped on jacket creating a full piece or his vest dress that includes hand-dyed fabric to create a smoky black and cream ombre-colored detail.  This designer’s inspiration and muse comes in the form of the ever-intriguing Zoe Kravitz and alluring Omahyra Mota.  When clothing can captivate an audience as demonstrated by this collection, success is only a matter of time.

Social Diary: L.A. Bound

By Natacha

That’s right as of this weekend I have packed up my things and moved to the southern California oasis that is Los Angeles! After four fun-filled years in my beloved NYC, I decided I was in need of change (and a serious tan) and packed up my life.

Although, I have been an Angelino since birth, I look forward to rediscovering this sun savvy city and the little nooks and crannies in between. Already this week I stumbled upon this amazing furniture mecca in Culver City. To a girl with a barren apartment, I thought I had reached the seventh level of Nirvana.

Apparently, I wasn’t the first to know about this either, the likes of Naomi Watts, Selena Gomez and Julia Roberts have all been spotted at this furniture haven. My favorite store was this massive emporium, H.D. Buttercup. From chic, art deco tables to cozy, corner sofas, I literally had to restrain myself. I finally settled on a few less expensive, decorative pieces that I knew would look great in my place.

I can’t wait to scour the city for more amazing finds, but for now it’s off to Zuma Beach in Malibu to catch up on some of those much-needed rays of sunshine and hopefully a few classic celeb sightings!

Daily Shrine: Blake Lively at Burberry

By Kimberly

If you’re going to a party honoring one of the world’s best fashion labels, you had better be on your style A game. Fortunately for “Gossip Girl” Blake Lively, on the scene to fete Burberry, she was. I love, love, love Blake’s heather-gray tee paired with a rolled-up boyfriend blazer (a wardrobe must right now) and a foxy wool skirt. Burberry sometimes has a reputation for being too classic and traditional, but Blake proves that the label can do modern and fashion-forward as well as anyone else.

H&M Fashion Against AIDS Launch hosted by Estelle

By Dee

Last night clothing store mogul H&M, Designers Against AIDS, and British music icon, Estelle, hosted an event that brought together two giant forces in today’s world:  the fight against aids and fashion!  The event acted as the launch for the 2009 Fashion Against Aids collection that featured designs by Katy Perry, Dita Von Teese, Estelle, Cyndi Lauper, N.E.R.D, Yoko One, and Moby.. just to name a few!  Guests were allowed to shop before the store opened and received a special sneak peek at the FAA collection.

The new Upper East Side H&M on 86th street was filled with Manhattanites as they unveiled the 2009 FAA offerings.  A few notable faces included Kim Stoltz of MTV, Dangerous Muse, and Kevin Sayer of Run’s House.  Estelle donned a Matthew Williamson for H&M gown while Andre J chose a Roisin Murphy designed FAA bodysuit.  Cocktails were served from Belvedere and music was spun by DJ KISS.

Daily Shrine: Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt at Cannes

By Kimberly

With all due respect to those on Team Aniston, it just doesn’t get any hotter than this. Dream couple Angelina Jolie, stunning in a tea rose Versace Atelier with a dramatic slit and a knockout pair of legs, and Brad Pitt, handsome as ever in his tux, stole the show at the Cannes premiere of his new film, “Inglourious Basterds.” Let’s face it-Angelina would look gorgeous in a sweatsuit paired with orange Crocs, but this ’40s-era look-complemented by loose waves, a crimson pout, and killer champagne satin heels-particularly suits her. We’re not worthy!
